Visual Fields (Perimetry)
What is it?
A test that maps what you can see around you whilst you stare straight ahead—your peripheral (side) vision.
What’s involved?
-
You sit and focus on a central point.
-
Lights appear in your peripheral vision, and you press a button whenever you spot them.
Why it matters:
-
It's essential for detecting glaucoma early, which often affects yout peripheral vision before you notice it.
-
Also helps spot neurologic issues like stroke, some brain tumours and other subtle visual field defects.
Why it's worth having:
This test can catch disease before you realize anything’s wrong—including blind spots that you may not have been aware of. It also helps to monitor the effectiveness of your glaucoma medicaton by monitoring whether the condition is progressing.
We use the traditional 'gold standard' Humphrey Visual Field Analyser in our Castries Store, and have the new 'virtual field' analyser in Rodney Bay.
